Explomet 4

The next generation V.O.D and detonator delay instrument from Kontinitro.

Built upon decades of experience in high-precision measurement, the Explomet 4 combines the proven strengths of the Explomet 2T+ and the Explomet 3 with a major new feature: an integrated Detomet 4 mode for detonator delay measurement.

Twenty-five years after the original Detomet, Kontinitro has redesigned the concept from the ground up and integrated it into a single, modern platform. Compact, powerful, intuitive and exceptionally precise, the Explomet 4 is the most advanced instrument ever developed by the company since the first Explomet of the late 1970s.

  • ·Integrated Detomet 4 mode for detonator delay measurement
  • ·Portable (6 optical inputs) or suitcase (8 optical inputs) format
  • ·Time resolution down to 0.01 microsecond
  • ·Slow-combustion measurement up to 3 minutes
  • ·CSV storage on SD card with internal backup
  • ·User interface in 6 languages

Section

Two hardware formats

The Explomet 4 is available in two hardware configurations to fit laboratory and field operations.

Portable format: compact aluminum housing based on the proven Explomet 2T+ platform, 6 optical inputs, lightweight and field-portable.

Suitcase format: rugged transport case in the spirit of the Explomet 3, 8 optical inputs, optional integrated thermal printer, designed for advanced testing and demanding field operations.

Section

Explomet 4 mode, velocity of detonation

The Explomet 4 mode measures time intervals between optical fiber inputs without requiring any predefined triggering sequence. It accepts between 1 and 6 optical inputs and records time intervals down to 0.01 microsecond.

Input position X1 can be triggered either optically through a fiber optic cable or electrically through a dedicated trigger input. Once the distances between optical positions are entered, the instrument automatically calculates the Velocity of Detonation in meters per second.

Typical applications include V.O.D measurement in explosive cartridges, V.O.D measurement in blast holes, top-to-bottom detonation verification, shock tube timing analysis and general explosive performance testing.

Section

Detomet 4 mode, detonator delay

The Detomet 4 mode has been completely redesigned and integrated into the Explomet 4 platform. Input X1 starts five independent counters simultaneously, while five optical inputs stop each counter individually.

Measurements are displayed in milliseconds with a reading resolution down to the microsecond.

Typical applications include electric detonator delay measurements, shock tube detonator delay measurements, surface delay measurements on blast fields, analysis of firing sequences and delay verification between successive explosions.

Section

Three software configurations

The instrument is available in three software configurations to match each operational profile: Explomet 4 (V.O.D measurement only), Detomet 4 (detonator delay measurement only) and Explomet 4+ (combined Explomet and Detomet functionality on the same instrument).

Section

Slow combustion measurements

The Explomet 4 also incorporates a dedicated measurement system for slow-burning materials. Measurement durations of up to 3 minutes can be recorded with high accuracy.

Typical applications include propellants, powders, fuses, ignition systems, fuels and pyrotechnic materials.

Section

Data storage and security

All measurements are automatically stored on a removable SD card in CSV format and can be easily imported into Microsoft Excel, LibreOffice Calc, OpenOffice or any compatible data analysis software.

Each measurement is stored individually and integrated into a complete test history. For additional security, a duplicate copy is simultaneously saved to an internal memory card. In the event of SD card failure or loss, the complete measurement history can be restored.

For rapid field verification, the instrument allows direct access to the last ten recorded measurements without requiring a computer or external software.

Section

Multilingual user interface

The Explomet 4 user interface is available in six languages: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and Polish.

FAQ

Common questions

When will the Explomet 4 be available?+

Planned release is late July 2026. Final validation is in progress. Contact Kontinitro to be notified of availability and to receive the official documentation as soon as it is released.

Does the Explomet 4 replace the Detomet 2.0?+

Yes. The Detomet 2.0 is End of Life and the redesigned Detomet functionality is now integrated into the Explomet 4 as the Detomet 4 mode. Documentation and support remain available for existing Detomet 2.0 customers.

What is the difference with the Explomet 3?+

The Explomet 3 remains the field V.O.D instrument and is fully available. The Explomet 4 introduces two hardware formats (portable and suitcase), the new Detomet 4 mode for detonator delay measurement, a slow-combustion mode up to 3 minutes and a modernized data storage system.

How do I order the Explomet 4?+
